Evaluation and Analysis of Neighborhood Territoriality; Case Study the Context's Neighborhoods in Isfahan

Extract

Territory is a non-objective concept and a kind of mental spatial mental demarcation which individuals have a sense of ownership and protection against invaders in their bondries. Territorial behavior in neighborhoods can create security, satisfy the sense of belonging and identity in individuals and increase control, privacy, intimacy and security in the neighborhood. One of the solutions to increase the quality of the neighborhood is that in public areas, by using design measures, the residents of the neighborhood will consider it as a secondary territory. It is for the individuals of the neighborhood to have control over it, and even with personalization and marking, they inspect and take care of the space. In the architecture of traditional Iranian neighborhoods, this issue has been done successfully and in this study, by examining them through Depth map software and Space Syntax method, graphic maps and extracted data are analyzed and compared. According to the obtained results, the arrangement of mass and space and the hierarchy between them in traditional neighborhoods are the factors which create a sense of territorial behavior that disturbed by the checkered streets and regardless to their contexts and abandonment of contexts over time has turned solitude as a positive factor, which has created a place for inappropriate behavior and lack of security.
