Neighborhood-oriented housing based on recognizing the quality characteristics of presence in the historical context of Maghsoud Beig neighbourhood in Isfahan

Abstract:

As the first community where people enter, the neighborhood has a double importance that has been forgotten in the hustle and bustle of modern urban development. But the problems created by this urban planning system have forced the theorists of urban planning to revise their thoughts related to it, most of them; It is a return to the concepts derived from the historical, cultural, and architectural contexts of every city and country, which, in addition to responding to modern needs, compensates the cultural and historical gap created after the industrial revolution and the damages caused to cities and their culture.
In addition to the cities with a history of architecture and urban planning, which are required to comply with contextual issues, in modern cities, the concepts of traditional cities and the type of mass and spatial communication can be used, which is the result of hundreds of years of experience and harmony with the culture of the people and the climate a city and a country. Also finding and researching the true meaning of neighborhood-oriented through structural analysis. Because Today's lack of identity and sense of belonging, which is the result of machine-driven urban development and based on providing only physical needs, has turned houses into mere dormitories. In this regard by examining and researching those traditional neighborhoods that had the least changes over time, as historical and cultural heritages left by our ancestors, we search for the spatial qualities that exist in them and find out the reason for each one so that we can use them in new designs not only in appearance but also in its concepts and essence. This issue of how to identify or create metaphysical qualities in physical structure is an issue that has been tried to be achieved in this research by matching physical analysis to qualitative indicators. Therefore, what will be obtained at the end of this research is not only theoretical discussions or normative theories, but also solutions for designing new neighborhoods in such a way that the spatial qualities can be deduced from the relationship between the mass and the designed space and the results can be measured graphically and tangibly; That this work has been done by the Space Syntax method, and the desired qualities and indicators mentioned in the theoretical foundations and challenged with a questionnaire in the neighborhoods have also been analyzed from a physical point of view. Three selected neighborhoods in Isfahan City; The neighborhood of Maqsoodbeyg (neighborhood of the target site), Bidabad, and Dardasht were investigated with a combination of interpretative-historical methods, correlation, and space syntax, and the results of each method were compared and matched with each other, and the result was used as a design strategy for the structure of new neighborhoods and improving the neighborhoods that Presented in a traditional context. In the comparison of the existing neighborhoods, we realized that if the newly built streets are planned in the direction of strengthening the old neighborhood centers, they will not only prevent their isolation but will also revitalize the activity of these centers. In addition, the existing hierarchy in these neighborhoods forms a tree structure; including the main body and then the main branches and some sub-branches, which have different levels of access, length of axial lines (the maximum amount of visibility from one point), depth, and width. This hierarchy in residential areas creates a kind of personal space and territory for the residents of those areas, which causes the residents to control parts of the neighborhood and promotes features such as security, belonging, identity, etc, which are part of the qualities of presence. The people of these zones meet each other and establish social relations in the more public parts of the neighborhood and form a coherent whole.
