An advanced hierarchical structure, resembling a tree-like pattern, has separated public and private spaces in such a way that tranquility is achieved in the residential areas. It grants residents control over semi-public and semi-private spaces, where several households come together to form a social zone.
The main goal in local development is to focus on people and meet their basic and spiritual needs, which play a fundamental role in the quality of urban life. This goal is only achievable by emphasizing participation and collective cooperation within a structured system. In this regard, the neighborhood, as the smallest spatial unit of the city, serves as the best center for collective management and planning, as it fosters better social cohesion.
According to research conducted in three neighborhoods of Isfahan, using a combination of methods, including interpretative-historical approaches, correlation, and space syntax, to identify the spatial qualities, disadvantages and problems (that have arisen) in traditional contexts in recent years, the following results have been obtained:
In ancient times, each traditional neighborhood was formed as a cohesive and organized unit, and several neighborhoods together formed a city. Today, this urban management policy is recognized as an esteemed approach by modern urban planners and administrators.
The harmony created by the combination of the mass and space in neighborhood directly affects on residents and passersby, encouraging them to coordinate and align with itself and becoming part of this harmonious space. The resulting feeling in individuals is actually the function of the forces emitted from this combination, and it is the art of designer that can utilize these emitted forces from the environment in the desired direction, whether it be attracting a population to a space or controlling access to it
