In ancient times, each traditional neighborhood was formed as a cohesive and organized unit, and several neighborhoods together formed a city. Today, this urban management policy is recognized as an esteemed approach by modern urban planners and administrators.
Urban management involves engaging citizens in controlling and protecting their living neighborhoods, fostering a sense of belonging and importance to their living spaces. However, modern cities have faced numerous problems due to different concepts, and citizens have become mere consumers while cities have swallowed their inhabitants. As a result, an imbalance and disconnect have arisen between citizens and the urban context, which needs to be addressed to create cohesion between them. Therefore, for the design of new cities, we can utilize the centuries-old experience of urban architecture and adapt it to contemporary needs. To achieve this, we can first consider a pattern derived from three neighborhoods, which I had already analyzed in my research. This pattern is a tree-like pattern with hierarchical spatial relationships which it can be used to create a new neighborhood or even a residential community that considers both private and semi-public spaces, while also providing high-quality physical and qualitative characteristics for public spaces to facilitate larger social interactions. We should discard the misconception that every new passage can contribute to the development of neighborhood connections and cohesion, instead we should use methods that allow prediction, such as space syntax analysis, and experiment the hypotheses to find the best alternatives for creating new streets and properly connecting traditional context with modern parts of the city.
About the neighborhoods of Iranian traditional context as well One of the main weaknesses is their lack of adaptation to modern life. I refer the part of social life that responds to the diversity in modern life. Spaces such as libraries, clubs, sports facilities, playgrounds, recreational areas, theaters, cinemas, etc., which are part of today's current life, do not have a presence in these neighborhoods. That is why residents migrate to more modern neighborhoods to have a life with more urban facilities. As a result, these neighborhoods have experienced a decrease in population, an increase in average age, a lack of interest from the younger generation to live in these neighborhoods, etc.
